On October 8, 2024, the International Association for the Future STEM Workforce (IAFSW), led by Ms. Suwannee Kumman, President of the Association, Professor Duangporn Hengboonyapan, Vice President of the Association, Ms. Jintana Paraksamanee, Vice President of the Association, Dr. Rie Atagi, International Advisory Board, and Ms. Weeranuch Kamolrungworakul, Executive Board Member, along with the executive team from Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, led by Associate Professor Dr. Khosit Sriputhon, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, Associate Professor Dr. Bandit Kritakam, Vice President of Research, Innovation Development, and Academic Services, the Executive Board, and Associate Professor Dr. Samnao Saowakul, Vice President of Surin Campus, visited and studied at the Irodori – Kamikatsu Zero Waste Center in Japan.
The Irodori project involves the production and sale of decorative leaves for food plating, enhancing the aesthetics of dishes. This initiative has revitalized the economy of Kamikatsu village, particularly benefiting elderly farmers who can earn an income by growing and selling leaves. The project promotes sustainable agriculture since the leaves are locally sourced and require minimal resources to grow, resulting in a smaller environmental footprint compared to other forms of agriculture.
The globally renowned Zero Waste management system, located in Kamikatsu, Japan, is famous for its success in drastically reducing waste through a meticulous sorting system with 43 categories, and the active participation of the entire community. Additionally, the center serves as a learning hub for those interested in sustainable waste management practices.
