STEM Camps
STEM Force offers inspiring and motivating STEM Camps for students of all ages. These camps are typically held on weekends or during school holidays. Additionally, some schools request camps on collapsed timetable days or weeks towards the end of the semester or school year. Camp durations range from 1 day for primary students to 3 or even 5 days for secondary students.
Our camp sessions are designed to provide a diverse range of experiences, fostering students' awareness of the latest innovations in STEM, understanding the science behind technologies, and introducing them to STEM careers. Students are actively involved in scientific investigations and engineering design to solve problems. They also engage in debates about the controversial aspects of contemporary STEM innovations.
All our STEM Camps provide engaging, exciting, and thought-provoking interactive introductions. Participants enjoy hands-on explorations, making, designing, and investigating experiences that stimulate questions, ideas, and explanations. The camps also include challenges for problem-solving and effective communication of ideas and solutions.
Some of our STEM Camps may focus on solving a real SDG or community-related problem. Students participate in a series of experiences, starting with an introduction to the problem. They then engage in baseline research to deepen their understanding of the issue, develop the necessary knowledge, understanding, and skills to solve the problem, and ultimately communicate their solutions.
For instance, in a specific camp, students worked on a real problem related to the province's annual candle festival. The challenge was to address the issues faced by wax carvers who create ornate floats. The wax they use is either too soft and melts in the sun during the procession, or it is too hard and brittle, leading to breakage during carving. The students' task was to develop a wax compound that remains unaffected by the sun's heat and is suitable for carving.
STEM Force offers STEM Camp leader training workshops for teachers. These workshops provide hands-on experiences to enable teachers to develop their knowledge and understanding of the types of activities they could run during camps and how to effectively execute them. Following the training, teams of teachers are facilitated through the process of planning and developing their own STEM Camps. The STEM and English language teachers shown below participated in a 3-day workshop that culminated in them successfully planning, developing, and running their own 3-day STEM Camps.
We actively encourage the involvement of STEM Ambassadors and the local STEM Ecosystem in our STEM Camps. This helps develop engagement with the world of STEM, the STEM workforce, and the STEM workplace.
Our programs are designed to deliver an inspiring and unforgettable experience, fostering thinking, team working, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills through inquiry and problem-based approaches.
